What Makes This Quiz Hard

The NCCCO Lift Director Mobile Crane Specialty exam is scenario-based — you get the actual crane load charts and must interpret them to answer lift planning questions. This Part 2 quiz replicates that experience with 30 challenging questions that require real load chart lookups.

Net Capacity Math

Block, rigging, jib deductions from gross chart ratings

Tandem Lift Planning

Proportional load sharing, percentage of capacity, critical lift thresholds

Configuration Rules

Outrigger spread, crawler extension, on-rubber, pick-and-carry limits

Critical Load Chart Rules to Know

Between-Values Rule

When radius or boom falls between listed values, use the SMALLEST capacity shown at the next larger radius or next longer/shorter boom.

Jib Attachment Deduction

When any jib is attached — even stowed — deduct the published jib weight from main boom rated capacity.

On-Rubber: No Extensions

Boom extensions (jibs) cannot be used for on-rubber lifts on the Grove TLL — outriggers must be set.

Critical Lift Threshold

Any lift exceeding 75% of rated capacity is a critical lift — written plan required. Tandem lifts are always critical lifts.

Gross Load Includes Everything

Gross load = payload + hookblock + all rigging + slings + shackles. ALL hardware counts against capacity.

Outrigger Spread Matters

Partial outrigger extension requires the partial-extension chart — not the fully-extended chart, even for loads within full-extension limits.
